Iām sitting here at my fold-out Korean table next to the open window as the cool breeze of the morning filters through the long sheer curtains in my living room. The trees are full of leaves and I can hear birds chirping.
The summer is hope fulfilled!
Back to businessā¦Updates and Crowdfunding
I have completed production for my new project tentatively titled Jacobās Ladder. Itās a short 10-minute film about a homeless drug addict who decides to seek help after having a vivid dream. The crew and I took two days over the weekend in early June and filmed everything we need to tell a compelling and exciting story. The next step is to finish it! Iāve already spent about $7500 to produce what we have. $4000 came from the City of Tacomaās TAIP Grant. The rest came from my Mom and my own savings.
So Iām back to zero. The plan now is to raise $5000 to fund the post-production phase of this project. The stakes are high. I need to complete this project so I can screen it publically as part of the requirements for the Tacoma Arts Initiative (TAIP) grant. Iām also planning to submit this to major film festivals including Cannes!
I will be launching a crowdfunding campaign through Seed and Spark in approximately two weeks. There will be a few tiers you can choose from to support the project. Please consider supporting this project at whatever level you are comfortable with. If you want to donate now you can too! Here is a link to do that
Long-term goals!
As a new filmmaker, I am working hard to produce films at the highest level I am capable of. I want to work with professionals and try to pay them what I believe they are worth. My goal is to make feature-length films and support my family with it. This is a long hard road and I canāt do it alone. I need all the help I can to achieve this goal. If you believe in what Iām doing and want to be a part of this journey please consider donating to this project. The crowdfunding campaign will launch soon but if you want to donate right away please respond to this email and will provide details on how you can do that. I also have a relationship with the NW Film Forum and I can provide tax-deductible donation status for large donations or from businesses. So if you know anyone let them know!
A sneak peek
Thanks for reading this and considering supporting this project. Here are some links so you can see what Iāve been up to. I made a VERY ROUGH cut of an idea I have for the first scene. The color has not been added. This scene is flat looking for now but will look normal as we go through the color-grading process. You can also see my vision board for a look into my process and link to the script. Open the link to the board and zoom and scroll around to see how I put this all together.
Please reach out by replying to this if you want to talk more!
Here is my first attempt at an intro for the film. I want to tell the story in a way that prompts the viewer to ask questions and actively think about whatās happening.
Vision Board:
This is how I put my ideas together and try to formulate a cohesive story. I try to brainstorm and organize as much as I can to help make my projects a reality. Iāve put a link to the script in there too if you want to read it. One of the key things I wanted to have in the film was a blanket with a jacobs ladder pattern. I found something close at the Goodwill!
